by David Gross We have always chosen a dog, but I love a nice lawn. I also like big dogs. A dog as big as a bear. One you can wrestle with one minute and use as a pillow the next minute. We adopted Teddy from Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary as our latest canine companion. At 100+ pounds, Teddy is a giant among his peers. One drawback to having a big dog is they make big “things” that causes serious damage to a perfect, green, lush lawn. You see, Teddy has the universal doggy gift of washing the life out of every blade of grass his destructive release touches. Dog napalm.
I taught Teddy how to sit, stay, chase squirrels from the yard, and even how to gently take a treat from my hand without removing any of my fingers. But after years of trying, he refuses to relieve himself in the special area I created on the side of the house. So I changed the rules.
I was reading about a new artificial turf that looks just like grass and is resistant to doggy damage. Plus, it requires no water (other than a quick rinse once a week)! A great looking lawn that survives an attack from man’s best friend and is good for the environment – I had to check it out.
The salesman left my house with dog slobber on his pant leg and a signed contract. They installed my new “lawn” in a couple of weeks. Now, two months later, no brown spots, no funny smells and no mowing. I’m a satisfied customer. Great looking lawn, no watering and a dog that…actually he can care less…but I love my new lawn!
