FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Rocklin, CA) May 10, 2008 – Just when you thought Whitney Ranch had it all, the amenity-focused master plan in Rocklin unveils its brand new, exclusively-designed squirt park. Located at Whitney Community Park, the new squirt park adds to the kids play area which also features a three story play structure. The squirt park will be open to the local community through the summer months.
“The squirt park is an excellent addition to the (Whitney Community) park,” said Rick Forstall, operations manager, parks and facilities division for the City of Rocklin. “We have been excited about this since the initial brainstorm. It’s great to see the kids already enjoying it so much.”
Even the squirt park keeps with the ranch theme noticeable throughout the master plan. The centerpiece of the water playground is the water tower which has 4 shower style water features providing a large water play area. On the other side of the playground is what is known as the “wet saloon” that has 4 sprinklers and a water dump bucket. Not wet enough yet? Leave it to the 2 horse cannons and 3 ground geysers that squirt water up at various intervals and pressures to keep the kids wet all summer long.
There is also a “team spray feature” where the water squirts higher when kids work together. For the smaller children, the park features a foaming geyser with a softer flow. Surrounding the squirt park, parents can relax around picnic tables under abundant shade structures.
Whitney Community Park opened last February and has been a major hit with the Rocklin community. Phase One of the Whitney Community Park provides athletic facilities including lighted softball and baseball fields to the City of Rocklin, along with convenient parking, a concession area and restrooms. Whitney Community Park is the home of Rocklin Pony Baseball. The younger kids (5 – 8 year olds) start today at 10 a.m. with games continuing all day.
“Newland Communities has done such a great job with this park,” said Mark Riemer director of the department of community services and facilities for the City of Rocklin. “Rocklin residents are fortunate to have access to such a spectacular facility.”
Planned to open in late summer of 2008 is the Sierra Foothills Audubon Society area, adjacent to the Whitney Community Park. Designed by Audubon members in conjunction with Whitney Ranch’s landscape architects, the garden will feature a variety of different backyard concepts designed to showcase how to connect people with nature and preserve the natural environment and habitat. The garden areas, which are easily enjoyed via walking paths, have been created in different styles to appeal to a wide range of tastes and will each feature many species of native plants as well as interpretive signage. The many ways homeowners can participate in Audubon’s conservation efforts will also be on display.
Whitney Community Park is located south of Whitney High School at the corner of Wildcat Boulevard and Whitney Ranch Parkway. To learn more about Rocklin Parks and Recreation visit their web page at http://www.rocklin.ca.us listed under the City Services menu.
