FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Lincoln, CA) October 22, 2007- The 16.5 million dollar Lincoln Public Library has officially opened to the public with the Grand Opening Celebration that took place this past Saturday, October 20th at the new facility at the entrance of the Twelve Bridges master planned community. The City of Lincoln and the library staff are inviting everyone to come visit and take a tour of the new facility. The library’s hours of operation are Monday and Wednesday, 1pm to 8pm, Tuesday and Thursday, from 10am to 6pm and Friday and Saturday from 1pm to 5pm.
“This is another great amenity for the residents of Twelve Bridges to enjoy,” said Mike Lee, marketing director for Placer Holdings. “Lincoln is a wonderful place for families to grow and learn and the new library makes information and resources even more accessible to the residents of Twelve Bridges.”
Winner of the Leroy Greene Design Award, the Lincoln Public Library at Twelve Bridges was built on a five-acre site adjacent to the future Twelve Bridges High School and future Lincoln satellite campus of Sierra College. The 40,000 square-foot space will eventually serve the students of the high school and college, as well as residents of Lincoln.
The grand opening celebration drew a list of dignitaries and speakers that included the Mayor of Lincoln, Kent Nakata, school board member James McLeod and Leo Chavez, the President/Superintendent of Sierra College.
“Over 500 library cards were given out in just one day,” said Darla Wegener, director of library services for the City of Lincoln. “We are so happy to be open and want to invite all of Lincoln to come take advantage of our services.”
“We have about 17,000 volumes right now and we are accepting shipment of volumes daily until we reach our estimated 150,000 volume base size,” said Wegener. “Not only will this library be much larger and more accessible than anything we have seen in Lincoln, but because this is a co-operative effort, we will be able to provide services to more people than ever before.”
Highlights of the new library include ample natural lighting for healthy reading, space for local art to be showcased, a large community room for events and library programs, a homework center, meeting rooms and separate areas for children, young adult and adult library patrons. The new library also features a library media teacher that will serve as a liaison to both the high school students and other library users.
A $10.4 million State Library grant helped fund the facility, and the balance of the cost was jointly funded by the City of Lincoln, Western Placer Unified School District (WPUSD) and Sierra College. The mission of the Lincoln Public Library is to provide an accessible community resource to support the cultural, educational and informational needs of the community.
“The new library at Twelve Bridges signifies still another example of citizen and community involvement,” said former Lincoln Mayor Tom Cosgrove. “This partnership saves taxpayer dollars by combining the use of this library between three public entities, while providing a state-of-the-art facility for the entire city to use.”
The library is just the latest in a long list of desirable community amenities at this award winning master planned community. The key to Twelve Bridges’ appeal is its offering of a natural setting with miles of nature trails and hundreds of acres of open space, plus all the conveniences of the city. Residents have close proximity to the employment opportunities of Roseville, Rocklin and Sacramento, as well as access to shopping and fine restaurants. The Roseville Galleria is within easy driving distance from Twelve Bridges.
